| Continuing south on Tecumseh Avenue, up the hill, look for steps on the right that lead uphill to the massive, horizontal monument to Alfred Holland Smith and his wife, Maud Emory Smith Le Baron. Smith was president of New York Central Railroad. While resting on the bench at the top of the stairs, you will note that within the reliefs on either end of the memorial are a wing and a wheel - - symbols of transportation. Mr. Smith died tragically in a fall from a horse in Central Park in 1924. |
