SUMMARY:The Tower Loop Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, May 20th\, 2025\, 5:30-7:00 PM \nEnjoy a mash-up of music\, mystery\, and mausoleum stories during this free evening walking tour of The Kensico Cemetery grounds. \nHighlights include a subway surprise\, a silent film director\, two sculptures hidden in plain sight\, a Titanic mystery\, a Hungarian dessert\, a runaway horse\, a vehicle that was awarded a Purple Heart\, and a tribute to Twinkies. \nTours also point out one-of-a-kind mausoleums and statuary that contribute to Kensico’s unique landscape. \nThe tour guide is Patrick Raftery\, Associate Director/Librarian; Westchester County Historical Society\, and a board member of The Friends of Kensico\, Inc. \nThe tours are free\, but reservations are required via the RSVP feature below. Please double check that you have selected the correct tour & date. \nDetails and Directions: Tour attendees should go to the Kensico Cemetery Administration Building where cars will be led to the starting point on the Kensico grounds. We do not recommend using Kensico’s address as a GPS locator. It will take you to our Maintenance Building on Lakeview. Look for the event directional signs\, and staff will be on hand for check-in. \nRestrooms at the Administration Building are open before the tour begins\, we will have bottled water available\, and we recommend comfortable walking shoes. \nFriends of The Kensico Cemetery\, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed to promote and advance the welfare of The Kensico Cemetery through historical preservation and education. \nThis tour is a Friends of The Kensico Cemetery event.  \n**Please read before signing up**\nThis walking tour covers hilly\, grassy\, and uneven terrain and may be difficult to navigate (not ADA accessible or suitable for children under 10). There are no restrooms or seating along the route\, early departures are not possible except for emergencies.

SUMMARY:Friends of The Kensico Cemetery: Veterans' Remembrance Service
DESCRIPTION:Soldiers from Westchester County who died in Iraq and Afghanistan will be honored as part of the nineteeth annual Veterans’ Remembrance Service on Friday\, May 23 at 2:30 PM held at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla\, NY. The public is invited to attend the tribute to these fallen heroes as well as those military personnel who have fought and continue to fight in the Global War on Terrorism. \nThe ceremony will take place adjacent to the Administration Building at the Kensico Cemetery’s Veterans Memorial monument\, dedicated to all who have served in this nation’s military. \nThe Veterans Remembrance Service includes the placement of wreaths\, the raising of the American flag\, scripture readings\, and guest speakers. Special remembrance will be given to two Medal of Honor recipients buried at Kensico Cemetery\, military from Westchester who lost their lives\, and the POWs and MIAs who will never be forgotten.
