Valhalla, NY—The Friends of The Kensico Cemetery will host a free educational workshop for the community titled “Tree Care 101: Pests of Ornamental Trees and Shrubs” on Saturday, April 19, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Kensico Cemetery Maintenance Building adjacent to the cemetery’s 460-acre grounds and Level II Arboretum.
Led by ISA-Certified Arborists Mike Cook, Superintendent of Grounds at Kensico Cemetery, and Frank Molina, District Manager at Davey Tree Experts, attendees will learn about various pests—from fungi to insects and nematodes—that can threaten certain species of trees and shrubs commonly found in yards and parks.
“One of the most important aspects of dealing with pests and diseases is early detection and proper identification. We hope to educate community members on how to recognize issues early and understand which kinds of trees and shrubs are most susceptible to invasive species before they plant them,” said Cook.
This session is perfect for homeowners, landscapers, and gardeners who want to learn more about the current threats to their outdoor trees and shrubs, as well as how to mitigate these issues. The presentation will take place indoors, and coffee and donuts will be provided.
To reserve your spot, please RSVP through the event page at www.kensico.org/events/treecare . Once your reservation is confirmed, additional details and directions will be sent via email. Although the event is free, donations to support the mission of the Friends of The Kensico Cemetery are welcomed.
