Soldiers from Westchester County who died in Iraq and Afghanistan will be honored as part of the nineteenth annual Veterans Remembrance Service on Friday, May 23 at 2:30 PM held at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. The public is invited to attend the tribute to these fallen heroes as well as those military personnel who have fought and continue to fight in the Global War on Terrorism.
The ceremony will take place adjacent to the Administration Building at the Veterans Memorial monument dedicated to all who have served in this nation’s military.
The Veterans Remembrance Service includes the placement of wreaths, the raising of the American flag, scripture readings, and guest speakers. Special remembrance will be given to two Medal of Honor recipients buried at Kensico Cemetery, military from Westchester who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the POWs and MIAs who will never be forgotten.
The service at the cemetery traditionally starts the area’s observance of Memorial Day, which this year occurs on Monday, May 26. This is a special event for Kensico, which has proudly served the community and veterans for 136 years.
Chet Day, Chairman of the Board of the Friends of Kensico Cemetery, in announcing the details of the service, said, “As a cemetery where every day is Memorial Day, we invite the public to join us at this special time set aside to remember all those who have served our country.”
