Tree Root Systems Seminar & Air Spade Demonstration
April 18, 2026 | 10:00-11:15 AM
Friends of Kensico Cemetery is offering a free Tree Root Systems Seminar and Air Spade Demonstration on April 18 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
Tree root systems are the “engine” of the tree, yet they are often the least understood. Home gardeners, landscapers, and anyone responsible for tree care will learn how tree roots grow, the effects of soil conditions on root health, and how improper techniques affect long-term tree stability and survival. The program will also include a live air spade demonstration, illustrating how arborists safely expose root systems to assess and address common problems. Designed for home gardeners, beginners, and green-industry professionals.
Participants are encouraged to bring questions and should wear comfortable shoes, as the program includes walking on the Cemetery grounds to demonstration locations.
The seminar will be led by Michael Cook, Jr., ISA Certified Arborist and Superintendent, Kensico Cemetery, and Frank Molina, ISA Certified Arborist and Branch Manager, Davey Tree Experts, Inc.
This educational program is free and is offered as part of Kensico Cemetery’s official designation as an ArbNet-accredited arboretum. Advance registration is required. Please RSVP below; directions and additional details will be included in the confirmation email.
Coffee and donuts will be available. In the event of rain, the program will be held the following Saturday, April 25.
The Kensico Cemetery Arboretum is an accredited Level II Arboretum, as recognized by the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and the Morton Register of Arboreta.
